I’ll be the odd one out here, where I’m asking not to invest in Mutual Funds.
Whereas, the entire country is abuzz with Mutual Funds growth story & one can see smart campaigns, on why they are the best?
To start with, I have this usual question, do you understand Mutual Funds?
One recent instance, while dropping my kids (waiting for the school bus), someone (parent) asked me… Mutual Funds acche lag rahe hai, which one to pick? they know, that I’m from the capital market. Before I can respond, person standing next (another parent), gave some name & confidently told this person to just go and invest in that scheme.
After few days, this person now with a smile… hey I’ve started Mutual Funds. I guess, all of us fall in the similar line, where people (friends & family) around us are influencers or motivators, for us to make or take decisions.
My philosophy is simple, your savings or investment money is your hard-earned money, don’t invest in haste, or the FEMO effect, the fear of missing out. Take your time to understand, what & how advisors are offering? do a cross check on advisor’s credibility.
Buying an iPhone7 on Flipkart is easier, as you are getting your commodity in next few days. Just imagine, if same will come after 5 years, will you pay-up? Mutual Fund is quite similar, where actual returns or projections, will come after many years 😉
Mutual Funds are indeed the best investments available in the market, but with more than 10k+ schemes, offered thru 40+ companies, it’s a tough call to first shortlist funds based on your need & requirement, and second (most important) to shortlist & understand the advisor.
