My Wife’s Treasure Chest

Hidden Treasure

With our PM Modi’s bold move to phase out old INR 500 & 1000 currency notes, we have a new crisis at home today. I am checking my wallet, bags & hidden areas to weed out any notes, suddenly we have bundle of notes, popping out of kitchen cabinets, dressers &areas we wouldn’t even imagine.

And guess, who’s behind this, my dear “Wife” … all these years she’s been keeping or stacking notes in some place or the other, which comes as small change, shagun(gifts) or any other savings. She would not even bother to look back to check, whether it’s there or not, or how much is stacked.

We started counting… and it’s not the few thousands we have to worry about, but value running into lacs 😉 As a matter of fact, one family I know, where this lady has been savings or rather stocking currency notes since last 15 to 20 years. The amount came to staggering 16lacs. Wow!!!

Nothing against it, as this money, time immemorial, always have saved the family at the last moment, at the times of crisis or any emergency. Typical Bollywood style.

But what made me started thinking was the fact that, if at least 90% or even 70% of this money, keeping aside a balance portion for contingency, my wife or this lady would have parked this money in any savings instrument, she would have made decent money or earned more money or best doubled same, looking at the time horizon with various instruments.

Other than the current crisis on how to now deposit this large sum & avoid questions from the regulators, we were happy to the core on this “Treasure Chest”& happier on the fact to learn “The Power of Small Savings” from within, i.e. your Wife.

Therefore, I dedicate this blog to all the women, who without any prejudice, starts this culture of savings small denominations, whenever or wherever, they have savings in hand.

From my end, being a founder of a wealth cum robo-advisory company, I booked an appointment tomorrow for my wife, such that she initiates this account as per her preference & conditions. And let her keep it a secret 😉
